Zoe - Youth Worker (previously Apprentice)

My job involves organising generic youth groups and running activities such as sports, arts and crafts and cooking.  I prepare and run workshops including self-esteem, equality, personal values, nutrition and sexual health.  I also provide one to one mentoring to those who need more support with home life, school or careers.  In the summer holidays and half terms I provide informal education to young people across Watford including a cooking club which teaches young people to budget for, plan and cook healthy meals.

The best part of my job is working face to face with young people and generally having fun.  I also enjoy working with more challenging young people and seeing them achieve, grow and develop a strong sense of self-worth and self-respect.

I enjoy working for the YMCA because I have been thoroughly supported as a Volunteer, a Sessional Youth Worker an apprentice and now a Youth Worker.  My manager has always been concerned for my welfare and I have learned what it is to be treated fairly at work and be part of a team.
