We offer a wide range of services for children under 5 and their families.  These include sessions such as stay and play, to which everyone is welcome and outreach support for those times when families need extra support.  We work in partnership with agencies such as health, early years settings, schools, Job Centre Plus and other community organisations to ensure children receive the best start in life.  We also offer training courses such as First Aid, which can be arranged according to the needs and interests of local families.  The programme varies each term and is outlined in the What’s on Guide.

The Royston and Buntingford Children’s Centre Group achieved the requirements of the Unicef UK Baby Friendly Initiative. The Unicef UK Baby Friendly Initiative is based on a global accreditation programme of Unicef and the World Health Organisation.  It is designed to support breastfeeding and parent infant relationships by working with public services to improve standards of care. It is the first ever national intervention to have a positive effect on breastfeeding rates in the UK. In order to attain the Initiative the group engaged with local Health Services and have implemented Baby Friendly standards to support breastfeeding and very early years development. They ensure that pregnant and new parents are supported to provide the very best possible start for their baby. All Centre staff attended Unicef Baby Initiative training which provided an in-depth education to enable them to handle queries and proved relevant information.

The group has recently been awarded as a Healthy Children’s Centre, following recognition visits which were undertaken by Herts for Learning, Public Health and Childhood Support Services. During their recognition visits, the group demonstrated a passion to support the Healthy Children’s Centre programme which aims to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for children and families. The Healthy Children’s Centre accreditation reflects the high level of commitment to the programme, and the healthy ethos that has been embedded across the work of the children’s centre group. This commitment to the Healthy Children’s Centre programme will continue as the group celebrate their achievements, and keeps working to improve the health and wellbeing of children and their families.
