Training & Education

Residents at our Welwyn Garden City Hostel are offered a wide range of interactive programmes to enhance their personal development and provide them with the skills they need to be able to live independently.

Formal Programmes Teaching and training sessions are delivered either in-house or by external organisations, which lead to our residents gaining a qualification and life skills. Typical programmes may include Key Skills Training with written English and Numbers, Works Wonders (offering support with CV writing, job applications and interview techniques), Basic First Aid or driving lessons. We also provide access to computer courses, business courses, self-defence training and 1-to-1 counselling and advice services. We work in partnership with MIND, Averee Training, Herts Aid, CAB and the NHS to deliver our formal programmes.

Informal Programmes Our informal programmes take place in group settings and allow our residents to gain new skills in an area of their interest. Typical activities include Life Skills Training, Basic Cooking, Allotment Gardening and our Personal Development Programme, which uses outdoor and team activities to achieve personal goals. Our new health & fitness programme offers 1-to-1 therapeutic rehab training and access to the local gym.

Social Programmes Our social programmes aim to give residents opportunities for social interaction with other residents and the wider community. These may include informal competitions, attendance at local and national events and trips out during holiday times.
