YMCA Nurseries recognise that high quality care can only be delivered if our staff are motivated, passionate and well trained. We pride ourselves on having created a supportive environment that encourages learning, both for our staff and the children under our care.

As well as providing flexible childcare for parents and families across Hertfordshire, our staff work closely with each family to ensure the specific needs of their children are met wherever possible.

The Aknife family have been attending our nursery for a number of years. With their eldest daughter attending school, their 4-year-old son Christopher suffering from Global Development Delay and the arrival of a new baby, our staff recognised that mum needed some extra help.

We assisted Mr & Mrs Aknife by applying for Exceptional Needs Funding, which allowed Christopher to receive one-to-one care three days a week at our nursery.

Nursery Room Leader Becki says “Funding Christopher’s placement has enabled him to maintain the consistent routine he needed and kept him surrounded by familiar faces within the nursery. The one-to-one care focuses on helping Christopher to reach milestones in key areas of development, such as cognitive skills, speech and language.”

To further meet the children’s needs, a sensory room is being developed by the staff which will enable the children to learn and grow through play and exploration. We look forward to seeing the children’s faces once it’s all completed!

“My son has settled in nicely at the nursery. He is very happy and confident. I know he is safe and secure and that his carers are first class.” Mrs Aknife
