Community Centre Coordinator

Location: Orbital Community Centre, Haines Way, Watford, Hertfordshire WD25 7QU

Hours: Full – Time, (37.5 hours p/w – flexibility regarding working pattern required)

Salary: £18,745 per annum incl. Location Allowance

The Orbital is a vibrant community centre with a mission to provide affordable, inclusive services to our community. We regularly host over 30 groups, totalling over 45 activities, seven days a week. Our diverse activities range from classes aimed at younger people, including ballet, free style and street dance, to healthy lifestyle classes such as 50+ exercise classes and yoga. We also provide spacious, versatile rooms for hire, including a well equipped kitchen recently rated five stars by Watford Council Environmental Health. The Orbital is a great, affordable venue for weddings, christenings, conferences, parties, meetings and much, much more!

We are now recruiting for a creative, organised and passionate Community Centre Coordinator, to join our Orbital team based in Watford.  Working very closely with and supporting the Community Centre Manager in providing high quality services and, contributing towards the delivery of services at other YMCA centres as part of the YMCA’s community development programme; the Community Centre Coordinator will have responsibility for maintaining the look and feel of the Centre, welcoming new services users and providing a high quality service to existing users. The post-holder will be required to work alone at times (including some weekends), with key-holding duties for which the lone-working policy applies.

The key elements of the post are to:

  •              Engage with the local community in relation to the on-going development of the Centre
  •              Support the Centre Manager towards achieving the agreed Key Performance Indicators and performance objectives and ensure a high level of service is provided at all times.
  •              Provide the Centre with a high level of admin support and have the ability to utilise the on-line bookings system
  •              Assist the Centre Manager with the co-ordination of a small team of casual staff

Essential Knowledge, skills & Experience

  •               Level 2 qualification in administration or other relevant field (Beneficial)
  •               Experience of working with people from a wide range of backgrounds
  •               Experience of working in a leisure/community centre setting
  •               Numeracy to level required for collecting and processing payments
  •               Literacy to level required for drafting straightforward communications
  •               IT literate – including use of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook
  •               Understanding of volunteer engagement
  •               Hold, or willing to obtain, First Aid qualification
  •               Hold, or willing to obtain, Fire Warden qualification
  •               Hold, or willing to obtain, Basic Food Hygiene certificate
