Location: Orbital Community Centre, Haines Way, Watford, Hertfordshire WD25 7QU

Hours: Casual/Bank Staff x 2

(Cover during busy periods & Events – can include weekdays, weekends, evenings and Bank Holidays)

Salary: £8.45 per hour

The Orbital is a vibrant community centre, based in Watford, with a mission to provide affordable, inclusive services to our community. We regularly host over 30 groups, totalling over 45 activities, seven days a week and our diverse activities range from classes aimed at younger people, to healthy lifestyle classes such as 50+ exercise classes and yoga. The Orbital also provides spacious, versatile rooms for hire and is a great, affordable venue for weddings, christenings, conferences, parties, meetings and much, much more!

One YMCA is now hoping to recruit some creative, organised and passionate Community Centre Assistants, to join our Orbital team on a casual basis. Working closely with and supporting the Community Centre Manager & Coordinator in providing high quality services and, contributing towards the delivery of services at other YMCA centres as part of the YMCA’s community development programme; the Community Centre Assistants will help to maintain the look and feel of the Centre, welcoming new services users and providing a high quality service to existing users. The Assistants will be required to work alone at times (including some weekends), with key-holding duties for which the lone-working policy applies.

If you have excellent Customer Service skills, are reliable, responsible and have a commitment to improving the local community and the services offered; this might just be the perfect opportunity for you to gain further experience working for an organisation that enables people to develop their full potential in body, mind and spirit!

The key elements of the post are to:

  • Act as point of contact for users of the centre
  • Provide the centre with administrative support and fully operate a bookings diary
  • Follow any guidance provided towards the smooth running of events/functions
  • Open the centre, ensure halls/rooms are ready for hirers and that chairs and tables are made available to them
  • Ensure that appropriate fire and safety procedures are followed by service users
  • Make hirers aware of any cleaning materials available
  • Ensure the foyer is kept tidy and any crowding issues are dealt with swiftly and effectively
  • Ensure the building is locked securely after functions.
