Location: Abbotts Langley & Hemel Hempstead 

Salary: £21,879.00 per annum 

Full-time: 37.5 hours a week. The job requires working flexible hours in accordance with the rota, that are negotiated with the line manager, and that are in line with the needs of the service users.

Shift starting times range between 8am – 2pm and end times range between 4pm – 10pm.

The Supported Housing Officer will assist residents through developing and delivering appropriate support plans, designed to support the move to independence.

The key elements of the post are to:

  • Provide support for residents in their personal, social and spiritual development
  • Develop a positive image for their presence and participation in the community
  • Develop opportunities to enhance their skills appropriate to their lifestyle.
  • Offer choices that are appropriate to their needs and have due regard for their safety

Knowledge and skills

An understanding of the problems facing homeless people, homelessness issues and experience of working with a vulnerable client group
Knowledge of benefits provision, money / income management,
Knowledge of the range of services and support available through other agencies (statutory, voluntary)
Relevant Housing qualification (Level 3) or above
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of person-centred planning and the delivery of life-skills development within a relevant field
IT Literate – including use of Microsoft Office and some administration skills and experience
First Aid certificate (or a willingness to undertake training)

Aptitudes, skills and competencies

Exceptional people centred interpersonal and relationship building skills and ability to engage with the most hard to reach individuals
Excellent communication skills with to individuals and groups and capacity to adjust behaviour/language (written and spoken) as appropriate to the needs of different situations and audiences
Analytical thinking and problem solving skills, including capacity to think and see beyond the obvious
Ability to assess, support and provide guidance to residents and develop networks with outside agencies
Able to deal with potentially violent and difficult situations

This role involves travel between sites as such a full driving licence and suitably insured car available during working hours is essential.
