New classes at YMCA St Albans

Yes you heard correct! We have two new classes that have started in September.

  • Monday – Pilates – 19:30 – 20:30 – Studio 2 – Lorraine
  • Wednesday – Aerobics – 19:00 – 20:00 – Studio 2 – Jade

So what are these classes?! Well let me tell you!


Pilates is a whole body fitness method that was created in the early 20th century by a German called Joseph Pilates, hence the name. This method is designed to help strength muscles thus reducing and preventing lower back pain. Due to the movements, Pilates can also increase your flexibility reducing your risk of injury.

Taking part in regular Pilates will help you master:

  • Controlled breathing
  • Concentration
  • Muscle control
  • Relaxation


Aerobics is a whole body fitness method that is created using rhythmic aerobic exercises with stretching and strength training principles. Aerobics first came about in the 1930s when it was designed and developed  by a US Airforce medic named Kenneth h. cooper.

Aerobics would be perfect for someone looking to reduce body fat and to improve general health and fitness.
