The Authentic Human Connection accredited training is a model developed by One YMCA and Deepr to enable you to become even more accomplished in your relational skills and approach in groups and in teams – supporting a better quality of work, collaboration, wellbeing and community impact.
Almost 100 staff and volunteers across One YMCA have already completed the course, giving very positive feedback about how it has helped them both personally and professionally, and enabled them to feel significantly more connected to others across the organisation. Our mission is to extend this experience to over 150 colleagues by 2025, and are really excited to announce that our next cohort will start on 27th September with 25 spaces available. Why?
There’s now a large body of research indicating that greater Authentic Human Connection at work leads to better collaborations, higher quality work, greater enthusiasm and happier people. People with the skills for connection are more successful in their roles and highly prized by employers of all sorts. These skills also enable us to have a greater impact on the lives of our service users and customers.
We know we’re already doing well on this front. It’s clear that if we get even better at it, we’ll be making progress against our mission and make One YMCA an even better place to be.
How?
We have teamed up with deepr, who are specialists in designing for human connection, and work internationally to support charities, businesses and even tech giants like Google in this area.
We’ve done a deep dive into what the term ‘Authentic Human Connection’ means to people at One YMCA, what it looks like in our day to day work and what are the main contributing factors to it. We’ve heard from 28 staff, volunteers and services users.
We’ve brought all that wisdom together with the work that Deepr have previously done, to develop a prototype framework for teams and groups to use at One YMCA.
What?
The framework is made up of four parts that cover all the behaviours associated with human connection.
We’ve identified more than 80 methods for supporting that human connection activity along the way. We’ve built those into a ‘deck’ that people can choose from at any time
We launched the training in September 2021, and participants have been testing the framework in their day-to-day work, bringing their collective expertise to help shape the course further.
