Our Welwyn Garden City Hostel provides a home and support for local people who might otherwise be homeless. Each resident is allocated a key worker and, together they will create a support plan which is tailored to the needs and aspirations of the resident to support them to move into independent accommodation. Each resident has their own bedroom and breakfast and evening meal is provided each day. Residents may have the opportunity to progress into self-catered accommodation within the hostel, provided they satisfy relevant criteria and subject to availability.
The hostel offers a large IT suite, free for all residents to use, as well as a residents’ lounge and café and pool table. Residents are offered a wide range of services and activities to support their individual needs through our Resident Programmes. We offer life skills activities which cover a range of topics from budgeting and shopping to healthy living and cooking within our training kitchen. Our Personal Development Programme challenges residents to address issues such as low self-esteem, low resilience and to gain problem solving skills. The support and training offered to residents during their time at YMCA aims to enable independent living.
Applying for housing
YMCA is unable to provide direct access for potential residents. An interview process is required to ensure that we identify individual support requirements and whether YMCA is the best place to meet those needs.
If you are homeless, or are about to become homeless, please speak to the housing department at your local council. Many councils in Hertfordshire make referrals to our Welwyn Garden City Hostel. If your council is unable to refer you, please take a look at our Eligibility Criteria to see if you are eligible and contact us to discuss your options.
If you would like to discuss the application process, or follow up on an application please call the Welwyn Garden City Housing Team on 01707 351 400.
