Values in action

One YMCA’s values of respect, compassion and growth find expression in all we do across the Christian Mission team – we seek to express our faith in indiscriminate, caring ways that inspire everyone to live life to the full.

Here are some of our highlights from the last year’s activity:

• We’ve trained and resourced 35 volunteers to offer over 3,150 hours of life-transforming spiritual and pastoral care
• We’ve taken 12 hostel residents on a residential ‘Journey’ retreat to reflect on their relationship with God; we also ran a second retreat for YMCA colleagues
• We’ve had 2,265 meaningful chaplaincy interactions with colleagues, volunteers and beneficiaries in our hostels, family centres and other locations
• We’ve personally supported 29 victims of sexual violence to receive additional support, with a further 45 referrals to help those affected
• We’ve helped re-express our organisational values in line with our founding basis
• We’ve trained and equipped 105 colleagues in Authentic Human Connection
• We’ve connected over a dozen local churches with the work of One YMCA

Volunteer as a Chaplain

Our amazing team of volunteers provide life-transforming spiritual and pastoral support to our service users and colleagues. Chaplains journey with people through life, their faith enabling them to share the hope they have.

 

What does a Chaplain do?

As a One YMCA Chaplain you will find yourself leading weekly and monthly prayer meetings, facilitating discussion groups, as well as taking part in creative workshops. You will also be part of the retreats we run for service users and our teams of volunteers. Above all, you will be someone who listens and gives people space to share their emotional and spiritual burdens.

We provide this care to people experiencing homelessness, families and young people across the area in which we work.

How could you be part of this?

Some of the roles we offer within this service include Chaplain, Administrator and Parish Nurse. We also take placement students. Whatever you feel called to, please complete the enquiry form as we can be flexible and try to create a role that works for you.

You can partner with us as a local church in a number of ways:

Give

We’d ask all partners to consider how you can support us financially. You may want to give to our general fund or one of our larger capital projects like building hostels, or you may want to give specifically to the work of Christian Mission within One YMCA. This may be through individual contributions, a monthly standing order, or special offering. Donate here.

Act
