Our Story
The Hive youth club started in spring 2018 with a view to do more youth work in south Hatfield. We started with very low numbers of young people attending the Hive youth club, but due to Covid-19 concerns were raised about young peopleโs wellbeing, and our youth work started to grow and reach more young people. In 2022 the Hive Connect Group started where young people can gain good quality youth support and form new friendships.
Our approach
We create an environment where young people can relax, socialise, participate in fun and educational wellbeing activities and talk to our youth workers about any issues that may be on their minds.
We engage with young people in parks and town centres through our outreach work and engaging with local schools to inform young people what we do and the support we offer.
Our reach
We currently have around 60 young people join us each week in our youth sessions based in The Hive @ The Jim MacDonald Centre.ย These are open to any young person from ages 11-19.
- Wednesday 11-15โs 4pm to 6pm
- Wednesday 16-19โs 6.15pm to 8pm
- Fridays 11-19โs 4pm to 6pm
In addition to this, we also engage with many more young people through our local outreach in the town, parks, and schools.
Mitchell heard about the One YMCA from friends at school when he came to is first session, he felt scared and anxious attending the youth club but was made at easy by the Youth Workers and the young people.
โI made more friends at the YMCA which they have helped to improve my mental health issue which I had at the time.โ Mitchell
